Recently my husband and I discussed getting a second dog. It was a quick discussion. He wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea of taking care of another animal, a pet, something that will require time, patience and money...funny.. he was the one who wanted to take on a wife??? I require all those same things.
After a few more discussions, I looked through the SPCA website, and we even took an adventure there, however, we didn't find a fit. So I then searched Pet finder, and found a lil shitzhu named Eyerene. Her story really touched me,[ she was found on a sandbar in the river with her eyes pussed shut and her lovely grey hair matted to her skin ] I felt she may just work in our family. So after a few phone calls with her foster mum, we decided to have her foster at our home, and moving forward to adopt.
We had obvious concerns, cost, ( she is partly blind and is hypothyroid) she also sounded fragile. Angus is a very busy dog, and fragile would not work in our current environment. The moment we met Beanie ( Eyerene) , we discovered there is not a single fragile thing about her. Her handicap doesn't affect her at all. She loves to play, and is a little rough. I call her our Ewok, and she has taught me to have patience, which I lack. I was worried she wouldn't be much of a walker, but she is a great walker. I am so proud of her when she gets going with her head held high, with such confidence.
Our other concern was how Angus would/could change. We knew he was going to change, and we are still cautious. We don't want him to change too much, but we were hoping he would calm a bit, ( he is constantly being mistaken for a puppy, but he is four years old) but we don't want too much of that to change. However, he is very protective of her, and it is really sweet.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience thus far.....2 more weeks with her, and then we make our final decision.
