What a beautiful day

The sun is shining in Vancouver today. It has me thinking more what I would like to do to my drab back yard, and less about clothes.

However, task at hand today, is to complete the "knot" scarves. I also need to figure out how to use photo shop, and get the photo's online, so you can purchase them. That is the difficulty walking into this career, with no financial backing. You would love to pay someone for certain services, like website work, photography, models, etc, but right now, it is just not in my budget. So...I would say I am jack of all trades when it comes to my business, as I think many designers/entrepreneurs are at this stage of there careers. It is so very important to stay focused, and stay positive. So many things get thrown at you, some amazing and some not so amazing. I think I also you can fall into a trap, "  be successful ", but if you don't know what that means to YOU ( not your family, or your friends), you will lose focus. I set mini daily goals. It feels so good to cross those off a list, and keeps me focused.

I find it really funny the things people say to me when they find out what I do, and I try very hard not to take offense to some. One of the things I am asked is " do you know how to sew? " I do know how to sew. I would say being a designer, is not being a seam tress. Seam tresses are a vital part of this business, however, I am not one. I can sew, and I get better and better each time, but it takes a very special person to do this job, day in and day out. It is very hard on the body, back, neck, legs, small particles getting into your eyes, and lungs. TOUGH.
I can make patterns. But whoa, it was hard for me to learn, I am/was completely a 3D person, so I didn't get it..at all...crying in class ...at 27! Very embarrassing. It was really hard to not let that define myself or lack of talent as a designer, because I didn't get pattern drafting. That was a learned trait from elementary school, and the need to be perfect at every single thing I do. I now can see the pattern in head before I start, which I was told would happen.

One of my joys about being a designer, is the art, the sketching, and researching. I just love to draw, and fill in the outfits with either watercolours, patone makers, pencil crayons. That is my favourite stage of creating a collection.I sometimes think I should make paper dolls !

today feels like a good day
